The Sphynx is described as an active and affectionate breed of cats. Cat owners should be aware of their sociable, sometimes called intrusive manner. The hairless kitties are pure indoor cats. As a rule, there is nothing wrong with a secured garden or balcony, as long as you watch out for the weather. Otherwise, the kitty could get sunburn or hypothermia. Most representatives of the breed appreciate a cat partner. But he shouldn’t be too calm. There should always be enough food available, as this breed has a higher energy requirement. When someone speaks of the Sphynx cat breed, they usually mean the Canadian Sphynx.

The first known Sphynx breed was created through a mutation and, as the name suggests, comes from Canada. The hairless race is also named after the ancient Egyptian sphinx statues.

The oldest photo of a couple of hairless cats was taken in Mexico in 1902. However, hairless cats have been around since ancient times. The first known Sphynx was born in Canada in 1966 but died without conceiving any offspring. Just a year later, a cat with hairless kittens was discovered in Toronto. The first litter was neutered, but the later offspring of this cat was eventually bred. It was originally thought that the Sphynx mutation was caused by the same gene as that of the Devon Rex. However, it is quite likely that the genes are different.

The truth is that the Sphynx is only hairless at first glance. Her body is covered in light hair fluff. The skin is the color that the fur would normally be. Therefore, the Sphynx can have the same color variations as other cat breeds.

Breed-specific behavior

Known for their alert nature and intelligence, the Sphynx is considered alert and curious. It is not uncommon for her to have a lot of nonsense in her head, which her lovers of the breed are usually happy to forgive. Some describe them as intrusive, for others their people-related and affectionate behavior makes this breed something very special.

Attitude and care

The hairless kitty gives off her body heat directly through the skin. As with the Don Sphynx, this results in a higher energy requirement. The breed, therefore, needs more food than others. Body fat that may be deposited on the cat’s skin should be washed off regularly. Some owners recommend a weekly bath, others recommend cleaning with a soft leather cloth. If the cat is to be bathed, it is advisable to get used to it as a kitten. Otherwise, the bath is associated with great stress for the animal. In the summer, the Sphynx can get sunburned. It is therefore imperative that you limit your time in the sun. But caution is also advised in the cold season: The hairless animals can cool down quickly and should therefore be kept indoors. Otherwise, colds are inevitable! As a rule, there is nothing wrong with a balcony.

Like the Don Sphynx, the Sphynx is often incorrectly referred to as allergen-free. That’s not the case. Most people react to the allergen that is in the sebum glands, saliva, and urine of animals. People with a cat allergy can therefore react more violently to hairless cats than to breeds with fur. An allergy should therefore be ruled out before purchasing

Cats are some of the cleanest animals around. Hardly any other animal companion of humans is as careful with personal hygiene as kitties. Nevertheless, the cat owner is also in demand when it comes to cleanliness and care. This is especially true of the pussy’s fur.

Grooming in cats: comb daily during the change of coat

Regular combing is particularly important when the coat changes due to seasonal factors. Please note: the brush should not have bristles that are too hard, as that could hurt your little darling. In addition, it is not allowed to comb against the grain, but only from the head towards the tail.

Long-haired cat breeds such as the Maine Coon or Persian cat need a lot of support with grooming. Although these cats usually groom themselves daily, it is not just about a shiny and clean coat. Uncombed hair can quickly become matted, especially if your kitty is outdoors and has a bit of green stuff hanging in her fur.

Many cats tolerate this type of grooming without resistance, as for some it is like a kind of massage. At best, the cat has been used to brushing since it was a kitten and acknowledges combing with a pleasant purr.

When the cat hates brushing

Not every kitty is used to combing. In the case of animal shelter cats, the new cat owners often have to iron out the mistakes of previous owners and do laborious trust work before the cat even dares to go near them. Such cats can usually not be taken by surprise with a brush or a comb and hope for the best. You need a sure instinct and a lot of patience. First of all, it can help if you let the cat just sniff the strange object – the creepy brush – first. You may also have to test out several brushes before you have found the right one for your cat. The cat is slowly getting used to grooming. In the first few days, only brush a small part of the fur – if possible in a place where you can touch the cat. Most of the time it works well on the back – brushing your stomach or throat is not a good idea. The cat should perceive brushing as a positive experience. So don’t wait until she gets up annoyed or hits your hand with her paw. If in doubt, you can only brush the kitty for a minute at first. You can then slowly increase the time and intensity. But continue to reward the desired behavior every time!

In the case of very shy or traumatized animals, only shearing at the vet often helps. This happens under anesthesia and is of course not healthy in the long run. Make sure you try to get your kitty used to brushing and don’t give up just because it doesn’t work the first time.

Tips: When the cat needs a bath

Most cats, on the other hand, hate a bath. Fortunately, this is not often necessary, unless the little adventurers have rolled around in the mud outside or are afflicted with unpleasant smells after a walk. Then simply pour a little lukewarm water into the bathtub – or a small bowl – and bathe the animal carefully and slowly. The water should never go further than the cat’s belly and you should always wash from the bottom up. Make slow, circular movements to soothe the kitty and give it a little massage – then she may be more likely to put up with the laundry.

With almost all cats, the bathroom will not earn you any points on the popularity scale, but the smells will then usually disappear quickly and effectively. In an emergency, a small amount of cat shampoo can also help. If your little rascal refuses vehemently, dry shampoo (for cats!) Could also be a solution. So you can get the kitty clean without getting wet.

Either way, when the grooming is over, the cat should receive praise and a reward. Then she may be more inclined to endure the procedure next time.

The question of whether the kitty is allowed to go to bed should generally be decided by everyone for themselves. What is certain about the small balls of wool is that it is always worth trying to test it. Many cats cannot imagine anything better than spending the evening in their feathers, especially in the evening. The best thing is to have a little cuddle with your owner.

While some cat owners enjoy this, some bipeds are not at all enthusiastic when the cat comes too close to their skin and, in the worst case, still sleeps on their face. The only thing that helps here is to wean the kitty from it with a lot of patience and positive reinforcement.

What to look out for when the cat is allowed to go to bed

It is particularly important when you decide that your darling is allowed to go to bed, that the cat is healthy. After all, who wants to have parasites like ticks or fleas in bed that can be not only annoying but also dangerous? That is why cats, with whom you cuddle a lot and sometimes also in bed, have to be dewormed regularly. This is basically true, but the closer the kitty is to her human, the higher the risk of transmission. That is why flea prevention is an important point that should not be neglected.

When the cat shouldn’t go to bed with you

However, caution is advised with children: In the bed of your offspring, it is better to cuddle stuffed cats than real house tigers. Babies and toddlers, in particular, should not come into contact with cats at night. On the one hand, they could be allergic without your knowing about it, on the other hand, the children’s breathing could be impaired if they sleep in a confined space with the kitties.

Those who tolerate cats in the house, but are sensitive when they come into closer contact with their hair, should rather spend the night without animal company. Because through close contact with the kitties you automatically breathe in hair easily, which can lead to irritation of the respiratory tract – especially in people who are prone to allergies. If the animal comes to bed by carelessness, simply wash the bedclothes and put them in the dryer.

If, on the other hand, you are neither allergic nor object to a four-legged friend visiting you regularly at night, then have fun cuddling and sweet cat dreams. Oh yes, and don’t forget one thing: Before the kitty lies diagonally across your whole bed and you have to sleep on the floor – you can set limits for the hairy lodger!

The Cornish Rex is a lively and friendly breed of cats that remains playful into old age. Therefore, it is usually suitable for families with children. Since their fur is very fine and consists entirely of an undercoat, it should mainly be kept indoors. As a rule, however, there is nothing wrong with taking a short detour to a secured balcony. The Cornish Rex does not like to stay alone, so that – especially when working – you should urgently think about keeping a second cat.

The hallmark of the Cornish Rex is their special fur, which is curled up, consists entirely of an undercoat, and is somewhat reminiscent of a mole.

The gene mutation that causes the breed-typical hair changes is inherited recessively (i.e. not dominant) and is identical to the fur mutation of the German Rex.

The first kitten with the typical Cornish Rex coat was found on a farm in Cornwall and is said to have been mated back to its mother. To expand the gene pool, Siamese were also crossed into the breed in the first years of breeding. This is said to have resulted in the Cornish Rex’s particularly large ears and extraordinary whip tail.

Breed-specific traits

The Cornish Rex is considered an intelligent, friendly, and cuddly breed of cats. In addition, she behaves very people-related and affectionately.

Many members of the breed remain playful their whole life and are reminiscent of kittens with their kind. For example, some cat owners report that their Cornish Rex can fetch and like to race with other pets.

Pedigree cats usually have their curiosity firmly under control. She loves to try everything possible and enjoys exploring her entire environment. Because of her friendly and bright nature, she is an ideal pet for shy children.

Attitude and care

Since the fur of the Cornish Rex is extremely fine and consists exclusively of an undercoat, the pedigree cat is only suitable for keeping indoors. After all, it could become hypothermic in winter if it was outdoors and in summer it could get burned if it was exposed to too much sunlight. However, there is certainly nothing wrong with a short visit to the secure balcony.

Like many other cat breeds, the Cornish Rex is reluctant to be left alone. It is therefore advisable to buy a second cat, especially when working. In addition, the velvet paw should be offered a wide variety of employment opportunities, as it remains playful into old age. A large and sturdy scratching post with many scratching surfaces is also an absolute must.

The Cornish Rex is characterized by a very special characteristic. It has scent glands on its paws through which a slightly cheesy odor can emanate. Anyone who has a problem with cheese paws should better reconsider keeping the breed.

What would we do without a cup of coffee in the morning? Presumably, go back to sleep. The brown-gold is essential for our day. Incidentally, you shouldn’t throw away the coffee grounds.

Because this is perfect to replace many expensive beauty products:

Coffee grounds as a facial scrub

The antioxidants in coffee can counteract the skin aging process. The caffeine stimulates blood circulation and makes the skin look fresher. The coarse grains of the coffee grounds also remove dead skin, which really makes our complexion shine. An ideal peeling for our skin. And this is how you do your facial scrub with coffee grounds:

  • 2 teaspoons of coffee grounds
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 2 tbsp olive oil

Mix and apply to face and neck. Then massage gently into the skin, avoiding the eye area.

Coffee as a hair treatment

Caffeine promotes hair growth by stimulating the hair roots. The antioxidants also protect against hair breakage. All good prerequisites for hair treatment. But be careful: coffee stains. So blondes shouldn’t throw their conventional hair treatment out the window. But if you have dark hair, you can simply massage a cup of coffee including coffee grounds into your hair and scalp, leave it on for twenty minutes, and rinse thoroughly. It’s already done the DIY coffee hair treatment.

Foot rasp

You can also say goodbye to annoying calluses thanks to coffee grounds. Simply mix a teaspoon of coffee grounds with olive oil and massage your feet with it. The granules remove flakes of skin and the caffeine stimulates blood circulation. Then you can safely throw the rasp into the bucket.

Coffee grounds as a body scrub

Coffee grounds are a great beauty product not only for the facial skin but also for the rest of the body. Because a body peeling with the waste product can not only improve the complexion but also prevent cellulite. And this is how the alternative to the body scrub works:

  • 1 cup of coffee
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil or jojoba oil
  • 1 teaspoon honey

Mix, distribute on the body, and massage in.

Coffee for alert eyes

You can also replace the eye cream with a little coffee grounds. Dab a finger full around the eyes, let it work in, and gently rinse off again. But be careful: In no case should you rub the granules around the eye area, because the skin there is very thin and sensitive.

You just washed your hair fresh and somehow after a few hours you already have the feeling that it is stringy and greasy. This problem often spreads, particularly with thin hair. But now there is a solution.

Salicylic acid shampoos are said to work wonders on oily hair. And that’s why.

This shampoo helps against oily hair

Salicylic acid is commonly found in face care products. This active ingredient is often used against pimples in particular. Because it prevents clogged pores and is said to be good for cell renewal. But it should not only be good for our skin, but also for our hair. This is why salicylic acid is now increasingly found in shampoos.

Salicylic acid regulates sebum production

The oil and sebum that are produced at the hairline are good for our scalp and also ensure that our hair has a nice shine, but too much of it quickly makes it look greasy and stringy. This is prevented by the salicylic acid shampoo. Because it helps to regulate sebum production, which is responsible for oily hair.

Peeling effect for the scalp & anti-dandruff effect

The salicylic acid in the shampoo not only removes excess fat but also has a peeling effect on the scalp. This combats and removes dandruff. The active ingredient also has an antibacterial effect and makes our scalp healthier. And don’t worry: this shampoo is perfect even for sensitive scalps. Unlike the majority of conventional shampoos, salicylic acid shampoos do not contain any silicone that can build up on the hair or clog pores.

Salicylic acid shampoos are available in drug stores or pharmacies.

Our fingernails can tell us a lot about our health. Brittle nails can be caused by too much hand washing or a zinc deficiency, for example, and stains on the nail bed often have something to do with limescale deposits.

What our nails look like can indicate vitamin deficiencies or other disorders. This is what it means if you have longitudinal or transverse grooves on your fingernails and this is how you get rid of them:

That means transverse grooves

Cross grooves on your nails tell you that they are having trouble waxing. This could be due to an injury, for example, if you poked your finger or pinched it. Iron and vitamin deficiencies could also have something to do with it. Sometimes horizontal grooves also indicate a skin disease such as eczema or even a hormonal disorder such as a thyroid problem. If all of the nails are affected, it could be from a more severe infection.

Here’s what you can do about it:

After injuries, the grooves usually heal on their own. As a precaution, see your doctor if the grooves don’t go away on their own.

That means longitudinal grooves

Longitudinal grooves are in principle quite normal and occur on average in around 20 percent of adults. In some people they are always more pronounced, in others, the grooves only appear with age. In most cases, therefore, longitudinal grooves are a sign of age. Often, however, they also indicate a lack of fluids. In very rare cases, strong longitudinal grooves can also be associated with arthritis. A single groove on the nail can be a sign of a lack of protein.

Here’s what you can do about it:

Drink a lot and keep your body hydrated. Strong grooves can also be removed with a file. But here, too, the following applies: If you are unsure why you suddenly have many longitudinal grooves on your nails, it is better to see a doctor to rule out possible disorders or diseases.

“May it be a little more?” Our hairdresser asks us more and more often what we normally only hear at the sausage counter. But what if the hairdresser cut off a little more than wanted or just doesn’t like the new look? No encouraging words like “It’s just hair …” or “That grows back again.”

If you don’t feel comfortable with your new hairstyle yourself, you need an emergency plan immediately. These five tricks will help you grow your hair faster:

Scalp massage

A massage is not only good for your back, but also for your scalp. 10 minutes a day stimulate the scalp, which in turn stimulates the hair roots and allows the hair to grow. Since such a massage can be quite difficult, there are already scalp massage sticks available.

Coconut oil

We are no longer surprised at all the other things coconut oil can do. Because the all-rounder is also a real blessing when it comes to hair growth. Massaged into the scalp before washing, it nourishes and helps the hair to grow back vigorously.

Inversion method

What sounds like complicated science is actually one of the easiest and fastest methods of adding an inch or two to the length of your hair. Again, oil is the key to hair growth: heat rosemary oil (or olive oil) a little and massage into the scalp, then it’s head down! The head should look down for a full four minutes – it’s best to sit on the back of the couch and carefully come back up after the four minutes. Now the oil can still work a little or the hair can be washed straight away. Then carry out the whole procedure for seven days and (if the rumors are true) there is an inch more hair on your head in no time. The whole thing can then be repeated after three weeks.

Plantur 21

There are also numerous products in the drugstore that are supposed to stimulate hair growth. One of our favorites is Plantur 21, a shampoo that is used every day to make hair sprout. Unfortunately, the product also tends to dry out the scalp.

Diet

In addition to all the products that have an external effect on our hair, you can also do good for your hair with the right diet and let it grow that way. Quinoa and Greek yogurt, for example, are said to ensure healthy, long hair. Salmon and nuts not only support a healthy diet but also support hair growth. So if you pay attention to your diet, you also promote hair growth.

Who has it happened to: Especially when the make-up is supposed to be perfect, unsightly stains suddenly appear. And especially on the cheekbones and forehead. With these tricks that won’t happen to you anymore.

We have six tips for you to make blotchy makeup a thing of the past.

With these tips, there will never be stained make-up again

Many people know the problem: During the course of the day, unsightly make-up stains appear on the face or when the contouring is applied, the color simply does not want to be blended properly. With these tips this will definitely not happen to you anymore:

The choice of foundation

Did you know that some foundations darken after a certain time? To avoid stains, you have to start right at the source. Before you buy a foundation, be sure to try it on the back of your hand to see if the make-up darkens. In case of doubt, simply use the lighter shade.

The cleaning

In order for the foundation to be applied as evenly as possible, your face must be smooth underneath. Therefore, clean your face thoroughly before applying the foundation. Every now and then, remove dead skin with the help of regular peelings.

The foundation before makeup

The foundation likes to stick to dry skin areas in particular. Therefore, the face must be cared for before applying the foundation. It is best to choose a moisturizing day cream and leave it on for a few minutes before you start your make-up routine.

Work in the foundation properly

Of course, the foundation must also be properly incorporated. The right tool must also be found for this. Either work in with a foundation brush or with a sponge in tapping movements. That way, it blends perfectly with your skin. A little tip: wet the make-up sponge and then squeeze it out. Because this way the sponge won’t soak up the make-up.

The right contouring

Sometimes everything seems to be fine until the contouring. As soon as you start with the contouring brush, however, the darker contour color does not really want to be blended and becomes blotchy. This is mostly because the contour color is too dark. Darker colors are generally more difficult to work in evenly. So it’s better to go for the lighter color and not apply too much at once. It is better to apply less often but blends in nicely.

Fix makeup properly

You are almost there. Now all that is missing is the fixation of the complete work. To do this, let your make-up dry briefly for about three minutes before applying your fixing powder or a spray. This will prevent it from settling in the wrinkles and drying.

Correct cleaning is the basis for fine, beautiful skin. Many Korean women swear by a double cleansing method for their faces. We’ll tell you what exactly is behind the beauty trend!

Like the sheet mask and slugging, double cleansing also originally comes from South Korea.

What is behind the Korean beauty trend Double Cleansing?

There is probably no beauty trend from Korea that we haven’t tried out yet. There are certain tips that have made it directly into our daily skincare routine: This is also the case with a hype called double-cleansing. With this type of cleansing, as the name suggests, the face is cleaned twice. In two steps.

This method is intended to cleanse the face down to the pores, remove make-up and dirt and leave the skin feeling fresh. In the long term, the complexion can also change positively.

How does the “double cleaning” work?

Step 1: Baba make-up, sebum & Co

Gentle cleansing oil or balm is best for the first step. The oil-based cleanser gently removes excess sebum, make-up, and dirt from the skin. This is because these residues are oil-based – and oil is dissolved by oil. Cleansing oils are particularly gentle on the skin and hardly remove any moisture. In this first step of cleansing, we first only clean the surface of the skin and prepare the face for the actual cleansing.

Which oil or balm you use is entirely up to you. Our favorite: The Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm from Elemis. The skin is not only soothed and cleared, but the balm also smells wonderful.

Step 2: clean the skin

This is followed in the second step by cleaning the face with a water-based cleanser – e.g. B. with a classic washing gel. This second step removes all dirt that has accumulated on our skin over the day and cleanses thoroughly. These include sweat, dust particles, or dead skin cells. Dry skin types should use a cream cleanser for this step, while micellar water is perfect for cleansing the face for normal and combination skin. Our tip: Vegan facial soaps, like this one from Klairs.

When is Double Cleansing used?

It is best to use this cleaning tip once a day in the evening before going to bed. In general, double cleansing should only be done once a day. In the morning, all you have to do is wash your face with water. Anything above that can irritate the skin, causing it to produce more oil and sebum. That is why it also counts here: less is more!

And best of all: this care trend is suitable for every skin type. It is only important that you only use gels and oils that are tailored to your skin type. Especially if you use makeup regularly, your skin will be happy with the new routine.
