Just washed your hair and is it greasy again? Hair that becomes greasy quickly can really be a nuisance. If you want to find out why you often feel like you’re looking for a needle in a haystack.

Fortunately, the right diet can help counteract hair that becomes greasy quickly.

This is why proper nutrition can help with oily hair

Basically, there is not much difference between oily hair and oily skin, both of which are caused by an overproduction of sebum. Our scalp is directly affected by the vitamins and minerals we consume on a daily basis. If we eat an unbalanced diet over a longer period of time and eat fast food more often, our sebum glands release more sebum to our hair through the scalp – they become greasy faster.

Oily hair: these 5 foods can help

Oatmeal

Oatmeal is a real superfood and can also help with greasy hair. They contain a lot of zinc, which counteracts excessive sebum production by the scalp. The trace element also prevents hair loss as it is involved in the formation of keratin and collagen in the body. Keratin is the main component of our hair and collagen ensures that our hair is firmly anchored in the scalp. If you eat a large portion of porridge for breakfast, you can not only counteract greasy hair, you will also be rewarded with thicker hair.

Nuts

The misconception that fatty acids are generally unhealthy for our body, unfortunately, persists in our heads. It is only the saturated fatty acids that are the real culprits and that we should be careful of. Unsaturated fatty acids, which are contained in nuts or fish, for example, have a positive effect on our body, especially on our hair. Just like oatmeal, they contain a lot of zinc. They are also rich in calcium and magnesium. Minerals not only promote hair growth but can also help against oily hair.

Avocado

The avocado is rich in biotin, better known as vitamin H – one of the most important building blocks for healthy hair. Biotin not only helps to balance sebum production, but it also strengthens our hair structure from the ground up. That being said, avocados are high in unsaturated (healthy) fats, minerals, and vitamins that are essential for beautiful hair and a healthy scalp.

Apricot

The apricot probably amazes most of our little list the most. But the sweet fruits can also work wonders on greasy hair. The apricot kernel oil contained in it ensures that our scalp is protected and moisturized. This not only makes the hair supple but also ensures that our scalp itself produces less sebum.

Chicken

Chicken can also help with hair that becomes greasy quickly. This is mainly due to the vitamins B and E it contains. Vitamin B stimulates the metabolic processes in the hair roots, thereby strengthening the hair and regulating the production of sebum. Vitamin E protects it from harmful environmental influences such as sun exposure. If there is a deficiency in both vitamins, the hair not only greases more quickly but also becomes brittle and brittle. Vegetarians should therefore eat plenty of legumes and plenty of green vegetables to meet their vitamin E and B requirements.

Have you ever cleaned your straightener? If not, then you should definitely do so because a lot of dirt and bacteria can settle there over time. Many of us use our straightening irons almost every day, and of course, it happens that residues of styling products stick to the coating – and that can get pretty disgusting because this dirt ends up in the hair again the next time.

In addition, the residue also means that the coating on the straightening iron works less well, as the thin film of dirt forms a blockage between your hair and the straightening iron. And not only the coating, but also the outside of the straightening iron should be cleaned regularly because dirt and bacteria are also deposited there.

This is how you can clean your straightener

Microfiber cloth: In the case of light soiling, it is sufficient to moisten a microfiber cloth and wipe the straightening iron with it. In this way, residues are easily removed. This works best when the straightening iron is still slightly warm after use.

Glass cleaner: Light but also more stubborn dirt can also be removed with a conventional glass cleaner. Simply spray it on a cleaning cloth and wipe the straightener off.

Iron cleaner: Cleaning agents for irons are also perfect for gently removing dirt from the coating of the straightening iron. The straightening iron is coated with a special cleaning pen. The straightening iron should be slightly warm for this.

Nail polish remover or rubbing alcohol: With nail polish remover or special rubbing alcohol, stubborn dirt can be easily removed. The straightening iron must not be warm during use but must be cold. The best way to clean it is to use a dry cloth.

Oh boy, who doesn’t know them – those fine hairs that stubbornly destroy your hairstyle. So far it was only reserved for our hairdresser to tame this flying hair. With our tips, you can keep your hair healthy and leave frizz by the wayside.

Do not rub the towel and do your hair gently

Never ever should you rub your wet hair like crazy, but gently press the moisture into the towel. You should also get used to deliberate detangling instead of wild brushing of the hair when it is wet. Combing knotted hair while dry also has the potential to cause hair breakage and frizz.

Professional accessories for frizz-afflicted people

Let’s do it Coanda! This is the name of the professional hairdressing effect achieved with the new Flyaway attachment for the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer. Here the dry hair is finished perfectly without excessive heat. A gentle styling in which our flying hairs are made invisible, for a like-after-the-hairdresser’s mane. The tool is perfect for everyone who already suffers from frizz and doesn’t want to fiddle around with five round brushes for hours to keep their hair on fleek.

Proper care

Yes, unfortunately, frizz is also mostly a matter of hair health. A roughened hair structure due to improper care plays into the hands of the culprit. High-quality oils protect your hair and scalp, and a conditioner also smooths the hair and makes it look healthier. Those who like to straighten or blow dry often – don’t forget the heat protection or prefer to put on the hair-saving devices from Dyson!

Get off the gas while drying

Do you know the hair dryers in the indoor pool? Yep, anyone who has tried this knows: Too much heat doesn’t bring anything except more frizz. That’s why the Dyson Supersonic hairdryer is one of our favorite styling tools. It is designed to dry hair particularly gently. The Supersonic hairdryer measures the air temperature more than 40 times a second and regulates the heat. This prevents heat damage, and your hair shines as if it was fresh from the hairdresser – nice!

Let it be fat

Yes, that’s right, if you wash your hair too often, you run the risk of a dry scalp and frizz. So it’s better to bumble over it with dry shampoo or wear a loose bun because the natural fat on the scalp prevents frizz.

When the air is cold and humid, it doesn’t take a minute for your hair to stand in all directions. You can do a lot against the frizz in high humidity.

Only one thing can help against frizz: Prevention!

How does the typical frizz arise?

Does your hair stand in all directions when the air is humid? We all know this feeling and there is a simple reason for it. The typical frizz in the hair comes from too little moisture. Once the hairstyle is destroyed, it is difficult or almost impossible to get a grip on the mane again. It is, therefore, best to prevent the problem in advance.

What can you do about it?

To get a grip on the wild hair, there are a few simple tricks you can use to prevent frizz:

  • Washing properly: To avoid a lack of moisture in the first place, you should wash your hair properly right away. A good tip is to use shampoos for curly hair. Even if your hair is rather straight. Because these shampoos are aimed at frizzy hair and provide a lot of moisture. Important: Avoid washing your hair every day. Sometimes less is more!
  • Mineral water: You should always shampoo your mane twice when you wash your hair. First, the dirt is washed away and the second time, sufficient moisture is provided. You should also use mineral water the second time you wash out. Because it has a low pH value and therefore prevents frizz.
  • Hair masks: To complete the perfect moisturizer, you should also pamper your mane with hair masks on a regular basis. So you give your hair the complete all-around carefree package. You can also easily make the hair masks yourself.
  • Air drying: Of course, you don’t always have the time to completely air dry your hair. It can also get pretty uncomfortable in winter. But you should let them dry a little before you blow-dry, at least for a short time. For about 15 minutes. This is because the hair regulates itself. In addition, the hair becomes dry and moisture is removed from it.
  • Cold air: A particularly good tip is to let cold air over your hair after blow-drying. This again ensures the perfect freshness kick. Because the cold air closes the hair scales again.

Haircare should definitely be richer in everyday life. Because everything that gives the hair back the necessary moisture is just right. That is why hair masks are perfect for proper care.

At least once a week you should treat your head of hair to intensive treatment in the form of a hair mask. But don’t worry – you don’t have to invest in expensive products straight away – one look in the refrigerator is enough to easily make hair masks yourself. Here are our do-it-yourself recipes for stressed hair.

What happens if you use conditioner before shampoo for a change? Only good! This trend is called reverse washing and makes for a dream mane, especially with fine hair.

The purpose of a conditioner is actually to finish washing your hair with a care product. However, it often happens that the hair is weighed down too much, and when dry it “sticks” to the head without volume.

First the balm, then the shampoo

It’s different from reverse washing. First, you apply the balm, let it take effect, and then rinse it off with shampoo. So the hair is not weighed down by the care and feels light and still healthy. Especially with fine hair, a conditioner often has the effect of making the hair look dull and feathery. After the “reverse washing”, however, not. The hair looks healthier, well-groomed, and shinier.

After the summer temperatures, our hair is very strained. So they need a lot of attention and care in the fall. We’ll show you the steps you can take to get your hair back its natural shine.

Caution: If you take care of them incorrectly, they will become even more brittle and lose their shine even more – so make sure you use the right products and use them correctly!

Three tips for shiny hair

Especially after summer, hair is more stressed than usual. The high amounts of chlorine and seawater dry it out and take away its natural shine. So moisture-intensive care must be found so that they shine again in new splendor. But finding the right care steps for your head of hair is not always easy. If you miss the product, it can lose even more of its shine in case of doubt. We have summarized the most important care steps for you so that you can find your old shine again.

The right shampoo

Care starts with the right shampoo. If you want a natural and healthy glow for your hair, vegetable oils, vitamins, and proteins are indispensable in shampoo. Alcohols and synthetic fragrances, on the other hand, remove even more moisture from the hair and therefore only cause flatter and more brittle hair. So always pay attention to the ingredients listed in order to provide the hair with sufficient moisture.

Regular hair treatments & masks

With hair treatments and masks, in particular, it is particularly important to know your own hair structure and to choose your care based on it. While curly hair usually tolerates very oily treatments and masks, a moisturizing conditioner is sufficient for fine and straight hair. It is best to use skincare treatments and masks two to three times a week and leave them on for a few minutes.

Leave-in products

In addition to nourishing shampoo and regular hair treatments, the last few steps are particularly helpful when it comes to hair shine. In the finish, integrate a leave-in conditioner or hair oil into the hair routine, which provides the finishing touch. Especially with hair oil and leave-in products, you should only work the care into the hair lengths and tips so that the roots do not become greasy.

As soon as it is autumn outside, not only do the summer dresses say goodbye to the closet, but also the hair on the head. The dermatologist Dr. Golnaz delirium.

She also gives tips on what to do about hair loss.

Seasonal hair loss is quite normal

We lose up to 100 hairs every day. What sounds like a lot is, compared to the thousands upon thousands of hairs we have on our heads, but really only a small percentage. Especially in autumn, however, many people notice more hair loss. Be it after the shower, while doing your hair, or on your clothes: With the cold season, the hair seems to lie more on the clothes instead of on the head.

So-called seasonal hair loss is an annual shock moment for many, followed by panicked product purchases and nervous Google searches. There is a completely natural process behind hair loss, explains dermatologist Dr. Golnaz Delir from the Kuzbari Center.

Because hair loss is just as much a part of the cycle as growth. “Our hair goes through a regular hair cycle,” she explains. “Every single hair goes through several phases: There is a growth phase, a regression phase, and a rest phase.”

Seasonal hair loss as a “change of coat”

While the growth phase lasts about three years on average, our hair is then in an initial recovery phase for about three weeks, until it comes to about three months of rest. It is in this resting phase that hair loss occurs.

This resting phase often happens in the transition phase from late summer to autumn and winter. “We have to imagine seasonal hair loss a bit like a coat change,” says Delir.

Because mostly the hair loss is less than ten percent of the total hair even in this change. People just notice more and more that their hair is getting thinner in general. By the way, hair loss can only be seen objectively from 30 percent of the hair. With the seasonal hair loss, it usually doesn’t get that far at all. “As a rule, treatment or therapy is therefore not necessary,” emphasizes Delir.

You can do that preventively

But if you still want to counteract seasonal hair loss a bit and want to strengthen your hair even in the cold season, there are a few things you can do. Because especially in the summer months, hair is damaged by strong dehydration.

“So you should avoid the hairdryer or straightening iron, especially in autumn and winter, and use moisturizing shampoos, if possible those with herbal extracts,” explains the dermatologist. She also recommends olive oil wraps and hair treatments. It is also important “that you brush your hair diligently so that blood flow to the scalp is given.”

Dr. Delirium also warns against the air that is too dry, as this can also damage the hair. “Vitamin C and vitamin D-containing preparations, as well as copper, iron, and zinc, are definitely recommended,” she says. All of this can also be done preventively and not only when you notice hair loss. Because “we put a lot of stress on our hair through a lot of blow-drying and dyeing, so it makes sense to take these active ingredients preventively. What could be easier to do without the hairdryer, ”she explains.

When should you see a doctor with hair loss?

But if you fear that your hair loss is more severe than someone else suspects or for a reason other than the natural cycle, you should do one thing above all: wait and see. The dermatologist recommends observing first and also counting the hair that has fallen out. “If it stands out objectively and you lose more than 100 hairs a day for several weeks, then I would see a specialist,” she says.

Seasonal hair loss is something absolutely normal and natural. “Seasonal hair loss is perfectly fine and tends to lead to fresh and new hair,” reassures the dermatologist. “Because for every hair we lose, there is a fresh, new hair. It just takes a little time before it grows again. “

We all know it: we just washed our hair fresh and two hours later it feels greasy again. You can just hold out another day, but by the third day at the latest, we have to wash our mane again. However, this can be avoided with a few little tricks!

Because there are things you can do to make your hair grease slower.

Diet & hair

How healthy and good your hair looks depends, like so much, on diet. Because the wrong diet also stimulates the production of sebum – and the hair greases more quickly. For example, avoid sugar and alcohol and make sure to eat alkaline vegetables (such as spinach, broccoli, and fennel). Too much salt also makes the hair greasy – so hands-off chips and co!

Dry shampoo

Those who rely on dry shampoo can delay washing their hair longer. Because the products, which are now not only available in powder form, but also, for example, as spray or foam, so to speak soak up the “fat” at the hairline and give your mane a new freshness and shine. A practical side effect: dry shampoo also gives your hair more volume. By the way, our insider tip is baby powder! A true dry shampoo miracle cure.

Apple cider vinegar treatment for oily hair

We have hidden a lot of practical helpers at home that can be converted into ideal beauty products. Apple cider vinegar can also work wonders for your hair. The home remedy can help with greasy hair or dandruff. Simply mix 1-2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar (organic, naturally cloudy) with one liter of water, rinse your hair with it after washing and massage in gently. The tincture does not necessarily have to be rinsed out, this is only necessary if the smell is bothersome. A so-called sour rinse with apple cider vinegar can also be used after every hair wash if you do not want to do without shampoo entirely. The vinegar gives our hair a beautiful shine.

Conditioner with mint tea

Conditioning your hair regularly can also help keep your hair greasy more slowly. Mint tea, for example, is a great home remedy. Just add a couple of peppermint tea bags to boiling water, steep, and let cool. After washing your hair, massage the mint tea into your hair, do not rinse.

Avoid styling products

Too many styling products, unfortunately, contribute to our hair becoming greasy faster. Because they weigh down the mane and cause a silicone layer to stick over time – especially if you also use the wrong products. For example, make sure not to use a silicone shampoo and generally try not to use too much styling. Avoid blow-drying foam, volume mousse, and the like – because styling products weigh down the hair and make a greasy mane look even lankier.

At some point, we all have gray hair. But then they are usually rather undesirable. But with certain foods, you can at least delay gray hair for a while.

These five foods will help your hair and hold off gray hair:

Bananas

Bananas are real anti-aging food for our hair. Because they contain vitamin B, folic acid, and magnesium. And these substances are incredibly important for our hair to shine beautifully. But the best ingredient is probably the copper in bananas. Because this trace element ensures that our body produces enough melatonin. And that in turn is responsible for giving our hair enough pigments. So eat a lot of bananas if you don’t want to get gray hair so quickly.

Lentils and chickpeas

Legumes are real all-rounders. Lentils and chickpeas are also really helpful in preventing gray hair. Because they are rich in vitamin B9 and that is exactly what is needed for the production of a certain amino acid, which in turn is responsible for our hair color. The lentils should be used especially in curry or stews. Because cooking for a long time releases even more substances that are good for the hair.

Salmon

One reason why we should eat fish much more often in the future? This contains valuable nutrients which, among other things, counteract the graying of the mane. Above all, the protein in it strengthens the hair and ensures a beautiful, distinctive color. The mineral selenium also regulates the hormone balance. If this gets mixed up, the aging process can progress much faster.

Eggs

Whether scrambled eggs, fried eggs, or poached – eggs are incredibly good for our hair. Because the protein it contains ensures a strong color and contains important building blocks for a good hair follicle. Vitamins A, B, D, and E are also responsible for a positive effect on the hair.

Seaweed

Have you ever tried seaweed? The reason the Japanese have relied on seagrass for generations is that it has very high levels of nutrients to offer. This beauty secret from Japan ensures silky and beautiful dark hair. Algae are rich in various vitamins and minerals.
